The significance of early influences on brain development will be discussed and parents will be given information to understand their role in their child’s learning. 
Parents will gain a better insight into the importance of play, nurturing and positive relationships in strengthening brain connections in young children.

For parents with babies in the first year of life.

Examines a child’s developmental readiness to move onto foods in addition to breast and formula milk. 
Covers the impact of nutrition on brain development in the first year of life.
Topics include when to introduce solids, variety, quantity and strategies to establish and encourage long term healthy eating patterns.

Ngala: Guiding Children's Behaviour 1 - 2 Years

For parents of children 1 to 2 years.

These workshops assist participants to understand normal child developmental progress, and provide the principles to help you in guiding your child’s behaviour. 
Explores the idea of behaviour as developmental cues from children. Discusses how children in the second year of life interact with their immediate world (family and social circle).
The parent-child relationship is explored.

For parents of children 2 to 5 years.

This workshop will discuss why toddlers find sleep challenging when transitioning to a bed.
Developmentally a toddler is on the move, driven to explore as their brain figures out their world. 
They can now make choices regarding whether to sleep or not. 
Strategies will be discussed to manage this change for both the toddler and the family.

These sessions provide dads with the skills to build strong connections with their children from an early age.
Looks at the different stages of children’s development and what dads can do to help children along the way. 
The evening is facilitated by a male Dads WA team member in a relaxed environment.
The Skilled Dads workshop is open to all fathers from all backgrounds.

For parents with babies 3 to 7 months.

Focuses on your child’s developing brain and how this dramatically impacts on sleep and awake time for everyone. 
This workshop explores ways for parents to approach this exciting and exhausting stage, including understanding feeding and sleep patterns.
We will discuss the skills your child is acquiring at this age and how they impact on sleep, communication, play and nutrition.

Ngala: Successful Toileting 3.5 Years plus

For parents of children aged between 3.5 to 5 years.
FREE 2.5 hour workshop.

This workshop explores toileting in the older child who is achieving developmental milestones in all other areas, and who has had a few months practicing toileting skills. 
Discussion is based around overcoming obstacles that hinder progress, and planning how to move forward as a family to achieve successful toileting.

For parents of babies antenatal and newborn to 12 weeks. FREE 2 hour workshop.
Offers information and support that will assist parents in adjusting to their new role. 
Understand your baby’s developing brain, verbal and non-verbal communication cues, sleep and feeding patterns. Provides strategies that will assist your new family.  Family relationships, self care and community resources will also be discussed.

Early Parenting Groups are a series of five workshops for new parents. Run by trained Ngala staff, these workshops provide parents with information about their new baby, introduce them to local services and offer an opportunity to meet other new parents in their area.

Topics discussed include staying connected, managing the patterns of absence and return, and maintaining effective parenting. This workshop offers practical tips that help families make the most of their time together and remain connected during times apart.
