Every Monday during school term, the City of Wanneroo, Wanneroo Cultural Centre run a FREE program at the Wanneroo Museum and Cultural Centre called It’s all about the past. This is a great program aimed at children between the ages of 2 – 5 years (although younger siblings are more than welcome).
Miss 3 had a great time attending today’s session. When we first arrived we were greeted by the lovely volunteers, then grabbed a mat to sit down ready for some songs and a story. Usually, my daughter doesn’t sit still through a whole story, but they made it very interactive and encouraged children to come up and point to different things in the book and even answer questions like “What colour are the butterflies?”
After the story, it was song time. Old MacDonald seemed to be the kids’ song of choice, then it was time for some craft activities. Each week they have different crafts available, depending on what the theme of the week is. They have different tables set up for each of the different crafts or activities.
Today we had the option of making puppets, Musical instruments, scavenger hunt and even a farm animal corner, which was set up with different toy animals to play with. Miss 3 was particularly proud of the puppets she had made.
All of the activities are designed in a way that the children can come and go between each activity when they want. Usually, they hold the class downstairs in the Museum, though today, it was held upstairs in the gallery.
The museum houses a great children’s area themed around Wanneroo’s market gardening past. Kids can pack and load vegetables into a market truck and play at shopping and trading.
It’s all about the past is on every Monday during school term at 10am — 11am. Bookings are not required and the best part is, it’s free!
You can find the Wanneroo Museum and Cultural centre at 3 Rocca way Wanneroo.
