City of Perth – Family Friendly Australia Day Events
This year Australia Day falls on a long weekend, which means more time to have fun with family and friends as we come together to celebrate our great nation and the diverse range of people who live here. Not only will there be a Skyworks spectacular in the city, but City of Perth has also assembled a number of family-friendly events for everyone to enjoy.
City of Perth Australia Day Skyworks
Bringing together more than 300,000 people, the City of Perth Skyworks is the largest Australia Day celebration in the country! Head down with friends or family and enjoy a picnic while taking in the beauty of the Perth skyline before the spectacular fireworks light up the sky at 8pm.
Lotterywest Entertainment Zone
The Lotterywest Entertainment Zone is THE place to be this Australia Day for family fun! Open from 3pm to 7.45pm, the Entertainment Zone is divided into different entertainment areas. Explore Carnival Land, full of bouncy castles, bumper boats and more; Water Playground, full of all kinds of wet and wild amusements, including the huge Monster Challenge; Sports and Challenge Zone, where you can let your inner athlete shine and challenge your friends and family to obstacle courses and games of skill; and Family Fun, where you can unleash your creative side and contribute to a community art mural or explore the Dinosaur Fun Park.
In amongst all of this will be a display of Freestyle Motorcross and BMX at regular intervals throughout the day. For refreshments, visit the International Food Market, celebrating Australia’s diverse culture with dishes from across the globe. Alternatively, head to the Rotary Big Big Aussie Sausage Sizzle. Food vendors will be available from 3pm until 8pm.
Supreme Court Gardens
Celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island cultures, the annual Birak Concert boasts a stellar line up of indigenous entertainment.
This year’s line up features talent from across WA, including a traditional Welcome to Country and dance by Gya Ngoop Keeninyarra, and stage performances by Mary G., Mau Power, Merindas, Delta Oui, Ernie Dingo and many more! In addition to the entertainment stage, there will be inflatable amusements, dance workshops, community stalls, historic displays, and the return of the Elders Marquee.
Hosted by Phil Walley-Stack from Walleystack International, the event kicks off at 3pm and runs until 7.30pm, and is a perfect opportunity for all Australians to celebrate and appreciate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

South Perth Celebration Zone
Sir James Mitchell Park
Presented by City of South Perth, the 2019 South Perth Celebration Zone features multiple zones with 100 free activities suitable for toddlers through to adults. Visit the City of South Perth website or our Buggybuddys event list for more details.
How to Get to Skyworks:
To help everyone get to and from Skyworks safely and efficiently without the hassle of parking, Transperth will be putting on additional bus and train services. To travel on any of the buses or trains you’ll need to buy a ticket or use your SmartRider. Check the Transperth site for more information. Services will be very busy following Skyworks. There may be delays, so your patience will be appreciated.
James Street, Northbridge
Rooftop movies is an open air cinema located on the sixth floor of the Roe Street City of Perth Parking building in the heart of Northbridge. Enjoy the sunset on a balmy summers night with a cold drink and some delicious food from a pop-up food vendor as you settle in for the evening’s entertainment. Rooftop Movies will be running sessions all summer long, with sessions running over the Australia Day long weekend as well.
Friday, 25 January – Bumblebee
Set in the 80s and starring our fantasy BFF, Hailee Steinfeld, Bumblebee will restore your faith in the Transformers movies.
Sunday, 27 January – Jurassic Park
Be a clever girl and come see Jurassic Park on the roof!

Australiana Movie Nights
Australiana Movie Nights is a free event running Friday through Monday, over the Australia Day long weekend. Grab something yummy from the nearby restaurants, grab a beanbag and settle in for an evening of free entertainment on the big screen from 7pm.
Friday – Red Dog
Saturday – Paper Planes
Sunday – The Sapphires (this screening will open with a Welcome to Country and a traditional dance performance)
Monday – Strictly Ballroom
Moonlight Cinema Perth
Kings Park and Botanic Gardens
Moonlight Cinema Perth will have sessions available Friday, 25 January, and Sunday, 27 January in Perth’s stunning inner-city parkland. Pack a picnic or pick up some takeaway from a West Perth restaurant to share with loved ones as you celebrate the Australia Day Long Weekend with a cinematic night out under the stars!

City of Perth Festival of Sail
The City of Perth Festival of Sail is back for its third year running with an exciting program of events for the whole family! There will be two days of free sailing for kids and adults on Sunday 27th and Monday 28th January from 10am to 5pm to keep you cool and entertained. Monday, 28 January, will feature an on-water display by kite-foilers and other exciting vessels.

Aussie Play Day
As part of the Australia Day Long Weekend, celebrate Australia’s diverse culture with a family fun day in the historic Cathedral Square. The FREE event will feature craft activities, live music and dance workshops.
Explore the community village and get creative in cubby house themed to nations from around the globe. Children can also interact with and learn from international dancers from Australia, Japan, India and New Zealand.

Fringe World Perth 2019
The Woodside Pleasure Garden, Northbridge
The Fringe World Perth continues all Australia Day long weekend with a number of children’s and family events available. There are shows and events for toddlers through to tweens, and something for the whole family, including a few that are free. Visit the Fringe World Mermaids for a shell-fie, get your face painted with the Freedom Fairies, or check out shows and events such as Trash Test Dummies, Balloonatics 2: Get Pumped, or The Greatest Magic Show.

Twilight Hawkers Market
Start the long weekend right at Perth’s original and largest hawkers market bursting with delectable street food. With live local music, it’s the perfect Friday night out. Twilight Hawkers Market will run from 4.30pm to 9.30pm.
Perth Home Grown Market
Murray Street Mall
Spend a relaxing Sunday morning on 27 January at the city’s sustainable living market filled with speciality baked goods, unique handmade gifts and so much more. Stroll through after brunch or during a day of shopping in the city. Perth Home Grown Market will run from 11am to 4pm.
