Each Tuesday for the month of July Toddlers are taking over AQWA with Mini Marine Biologist – Toddlers Tuesdays AQWA! Toddlers will love experimenting with a range of sensory play stations and ocean experiments as they train to be Mini Marine Biologists for the day.
Toddler Tuesdays AQWA’s Mini Marine Biologist sessions are FREE for toddlers under the age of 4 and run from 9.00am to 11.00am, the activities are held around the touch pool and in the cafe.
On the day we visited activities included;
Painting, in the corner of the cafe there was 4 easels set up with paint, paper, and aprons – a staff member was there to help children and parents. While my 2 year old enjoyed painting dots and lines some of the older toddlers were attempting to paint fish and shells. Once your toddler has finished their masterpiece it can be left to dry on the window and collected on your way out.
Trash or Treasure, with our oceans filling up with waste, causing pollution and killing sea life the trash or treasure activity to a fun way to teach young children about the importance of disposing of our rubbish correctly. Toddlers are encouraged to sort items commonly found on our beaches into the correct bin.
Slime, toddlers can help make smile – what toddler doesn’t like getting their hands messy?! After they have finished they can roll it, form blobs, squish it, splat it or see how far they can stretch it!
Ocean Experiments, both my toddlers loved discovering the shell table, they used the magnifying glasses to get a closer look and discovered if they put the shell to their ear they could hear the ocean.
Toddlers can also look for fossils in the sand.
Pin the fins on the shark.
In addition to the activities, there is a bouncy castle, crawling tunnel, a fishing game and ball pit – all of which my boys loved!
There was also a roaming mermaid helping with activities and posing for photos.
The touch pool was also a big hit with all the toddlers, they can touch a starfish or sea cucumber, or use the viewfinder to get a closer look.
At 11am Sharky Mascot came out to say hello, and give the children high fives.
After completing all the Mini Marine Biologist activities we wondered around AQWA. I love that every time we visit my 2 year old discovers something new, on this visit he got up and close to the juvenile saltwater crocodiles.
