The Mundaring hotel was established in 1899 and is set in the heart of Mundaring. It is conveniently located opposite the Sculpture Park. It has a number of different seating areas including an outdoor seating area and kids playground. The outdoor seating overlooks the playground so if the weather is nice you can enjoy your drink / meal outside while the kids play. Other seating areas include an lounge, restaurant, the bar or beer garden.
The day we visited was a lovely warm autumn day so we chose to sit on the outdoor terrace overlooking the playground. This area is not table service so we had to order and collect our food inside. Miss 3 was happy to see the playground and was in there playing straight away. The area is fenced on three sides with open access to the outdoor seating area. There were a few tables very close to the play area but as these were in the sun we chose to sit on the terrace under the tables with umbrellas. I was still able to see Miss 3 in most the playground from here. The menu includes traditional pub food, a la carte menu, daily specials, Sunday roast and a kids menu. The steak sandwich has won “best country pub steak sandwich” a number of times. Monday, Tuesday and Saturday nights the hotel offers $2 kids meals when ordered with an adult meal.
Miss 3 ordered fish and chips, myself and two others had the daily special which was a chicken Marsala curry and the other meal ordered was bangers and mash. It didn’t take long from when the order was placed to our buzzer going off indicating the food was ready to collect. We were all happy with our choices and Miss 3 polished off my papadum and half the rice along with her fish and chips.
As soon as Miss 3 finished her meal she was off to the play area again. The play area had two structures within it, swings and it is sand based. The area is shaded only by natural shade. When we visited it was mostly in the sun.
One of areas is a wooden cubby house structure with attached swings. It had a small climbing wall and slide.
The other area was a fort with connecting tunnels and a slide. There was space to play underneath with the sand toys that were there. Miss 3 thought this one was fun, declaring the tunnels to be fun.
We enjoyed our visit to the Mundaring Hotel and found the food to be very tasty and the service was friendly. The play area kept Miss 3 entertained while waiting for the food and while we finished ours. On a previous visit when the weather wasn’t good the kids were provided with colouring sheets. If you have young children be aware even though it’s kid friendly the hotel does not provide change table facilities.
