Ocean Keys Shopping Centre has expanded its range of restaurants and cafes in a newly opened food court area complete with a kids play area.
The play area itself is a small half-walled off section of the food court complete with an automatic closing door. The play area is very simple with four structures including a large sandcastle bucket to walk through, a large spade and two things I had no idea what they were.
There’s a half wall sectioning off the play area from the central food court which from the inside shows an ocean scene of lots of fish and coral.
During our visit the automatic door was open all the time and didn’t seem to close, meaning the kids were free to come and go as they pleased. Right next to the play area door (entrance/exit) is a central corridor and door which leads directly onto the main road. You can sit just behind the ocean feature wall where there are four tables and chairs/benches to watch your little ones from and enjoy a coffee and something to eat. But you need to mindful that unless you’re sitting at a table right next to the door of the play area, the kids could wander off out of the shopping centre. Hopefully, the door was just temporarily not working.
The food court is nice with plenty of cuisines and seating options to suit everyone.
A favourite of mine was the Essence Cafe, it’s the opposite side of the food court to the kids’ play area, but you can have take away options and pick a table nearer to the play area.
They have a kids menu which includes Fairy Bread, Sausage Rolls, Fish & Chips, Pancakes, Nachos as well as dessert options such as Milkshakes and Ice Cream Sundaes. All meals include a kids juice box and start from $6.50.
I was impressed with the variety of options and freshness of the foods served.
Adult food options include lots of freshly baked made with locally sourced ingredients including cakes, tarts, slices and quiche of the day. All-day breakfasts with various options and choices, fresh salads, sandwiches, melts, rolls and plenty of hot dishes to choose from.
Directly opposite the kids play area is the Great Wall Chinese BBQ offering lots of Chinese favourite foods. Choose a plate size and help yourself to the many options available. Plenty of all time favourites including noodles, rice based dishes, sweet and sour chicken balls and prawn crackers.
Another favourite of mine and the kids is the Sapporo Sushi bar. My kids love Sushi!!! Favourites include the California Rolls, Teriyaki Chicken and Sashimi. There’s a lovely little seating area directly in front of the Sushi bar which has a bit of a Japanese feel to it.
Directly opposite Sapporo Sushi and next to the Great Wall Chinese BBQ is Haweli Indian serving lots of authentic Indian favourites including Korma’s, Madras, Tandoori and Pakoras. There’s plenty of vegetarian options as well.
Next on my favourite and a more healthier list is Sumo Salad who serve lots of fresh tailor made salads. This is a great option for kids (and you) as you can design your own salad and include/exclude anything that the kids won’t eat and more of the stuff you know they will eat 🙂
Other food outlets in the Food Court and near the play area include Bucking Bull – hot roast grills and dinners and serve a great a mini roast roll for the kids. Muffin Break serves MUFFINS, pastries, wraps, raisin toast (a first fav for the kids), toasties, soups, salad and pies.
I think the new food court offers a good variety of fast foods including both healthy and naughty options.
Toilet facilities are right next to the kids play area and include baby changing and disabled facilities.
