Miss 4 first set eyes on Mermaid Amelia at Yanchep Lagoon when she was 2 and her love of Mermaids was born. So when it came around to celebrating her 4th birthday party there was only one request – a mermaid party!
Thankfully Mermaid Amelia has access to email in her underwater world and the best thing is that she can be booked for party appearances.
The hard part was choosing where to hold the party as we don’t have our own pool. Hillarys would have been a good choice for it’s shallow, calm waters and nearby BBQs and picnic shelters but Mermaid Amelia’s appearance would have attracted a lot of attention!
After some thought, we settled on holding the party at Wanneroo Aquamotion. Wanneroo Aquamotion is a great venue to hold a kids party of any age. They have a large outdoor lawn area, small playground, free BBQs and a fun water splash pad area covered by shade sails. Inside there is a leisure pool and lap 25m lap pool.
Organising the party at Aquamotion was super easy and surprisingly economical. An area is reserved for you outside on the lawn area and everything is set up prior to your arrival. Chairs and exclusive use of a BBQ is supplied free of charge. The only thing I paid a hire charge for was the use of a 3m x 3m marquee which was $5 for the first hour and $2.50 for every additional hour and a large trestle table at $1 per hour. An additional trestle table was provided for free alongside the BBQ.
Entry fees to Aquamotion as follows:
Child under 5 are free with a full fee paying adult
Children aged 5 to 15 $4.10
If you have more than 10 adults or 10 children then a discount may apply. All you need to do is give reception a list of guests on the day with clear guidelines of whom you are happy to pay entry for. For example, I specified that I would pay entry for 1 adult who was accompanying a child under the 5 who was invited to the party. Additional siblings or adults would need to pay their own entry fee.
If you are celebrating an older child’s birthday then you may wish to hire the pool inflatable which costs an additional $95 per hour.
I booked Mermaid Amelia for a 30-minute duration, which I found to be the perfect length of time. I was a little worried how she was going to magically appear in the leisure pool but she assured me she had it all worked out and that any of the party guests already swimming in the pool would not notice her arrival. She was very skilled at entering the lap pool via the staff room, swimming across and then pulling herself over the walk way that separates the lap and leisure pool. None of the party guests noticed her arrival and was completely amazed when they spotted her at the side of the pool.
Mermaid Amelia kept everyone amused for the full 30 minutes with a range of pool party games and swimming races.
A big hit was the mermaid rides where party guests got to ride on Mermaid Amelia’s back as she swam across the pool.
All the party guests were given a small gift from Mermaid Amelia’s special mermaid purse. Everyone received a pretty shell and the boys got pirate eye patches and girls sparkly rings. The birthday girl was delighted to receive a necklace.
One thing you need to work out with Mermaid Amelia before the party starts is her exit strategy from the pool so that the magic is not spoilt. I used this time to serve up the party food. We said bye to Mermaid Amelia and all the little guests were rounded up with the help of their parents and moved outside to our party area so that she could make a clean getaway.
For our party food we went with a simple sausage sizzle but if you preferred to have your catering done for you Wave’s Café offers a range of food and drinks at competitive prices, including Party Packages with nuggets, sausage rolls, party pies, hot chips, ice creams, fairy bread, cupcakes and more. Also if you are planning on bringing a cake that requires refrigeration Waves Café are happy to store it for you. This must be arranged in advance.
I am an absolute rubbish cake maker so once again I enlisted the services of the fabulous Jellycious Treats. We carried on the mermaid theme with the cake which came with underwater cake pops and sea shell jellies. The jellies are always very popular with the kids! The fab thing about Jellycious Treats is that they are able to offer large jelly cakes as an alternative to the traditional sponge cake which is great if you have children who have diary allergies. Visit the Jellycious Treats Facebook page for more information.
Miss 4’s birthday celebration at Wanneroo Aquamotion with the lovely Mermaid Amelia was completely stress-free and lots of fun! The party guests couldn’t stop talking about how they swam with a real life mermaid. To enquire about booking Mermaid Amelia for your next party visit perthmermaids.com
