Sunset Veranda, Brighton Reserve, Scarborough
DNA Puppetry and Visual Theatre are bringing the captivating and enchanting performance Cloud Child to the Sunset Veranda, the City of Stirling’s flagship performing arts venue in Scarborough.
Families with young children will enjoy this touching and lovely show presented at 10am on the mornings of February 1st and 2nd 2019. The show is pure visual theatre, almost completely wordless action with music by Verbal Vigilante Music – creators of music and soundscapes for film, TV, games and trailers.
Cloud Child is designed to be accessible to those who know little spoken English, those who are very young and those with learning disabilities. Importantly it is also for their parents, families and carers – this show is about how we love and how we let go.
While hanging out the washing, a woman discovers a child from the clouds blown in and caught on the line. She weighs the float-away-baby down with a pair of clogs and teaches it to walk, eat and play, but the happier she grows with her new-found child, the less happy Cloud Child appears. She realizes that she is going to have to make a difficult choice.
DNA Puppetry and Visual Theatre have been making family theatre for many years and have toured performances all over Europe, Asia and Australasia. DNA is now based in WA. Cloud Child was originally researched and developed with early years centres before national touring in the UK. Recently Cloud Child has been developed as an exciting online digital learning resource is a feature presentation for The Song Room, which delivers the arts into education all over Australia.
The FRINGEWORLD presentation will give families a great opportunity to enjoy the full theatrical presentation live in a beautiful setting.

For over a decade, The Cat Empire have been known far and wide as a fantastic party band. Their colourful, genre-bending music is difficult to describe and impossible to categorise, yet seems at home almost anywhere in the world. The Cat Empire’s reputation is built upon a chaotic and fiercely uplifting live show that saw their last album debut Top 20 in 16 countries around the world.
With their latest album Stolen Diamonds (release Feb 2019) delivering new music and energy to the set, The Cat Empire will bring their brand of feel good, smile-inducing, euphoric roots pop to Illuminate Night Party presented by LiveLighter on Saturday 23 February.
Supporting The Cat Empire at Illuminate 2019 will be ARIA Award nominated singer/songwriter/guitarist Katy Steele. A member of rock band Little Birdy for almost a decade, Katy embarked on her solo career in 2016. The WA songstress, with one of Australia’s most distinctive voices, will entertain the crowd with a mix of tracks from her first solo record, 2016’s Human, as well as dusting off a few Little Birdy classics.
In addition to the headline acts, talented local artists will feature on the main stage, and there will be roving performers, a glitter bar, photo booth, light shows, carnival rides, food trucks and much more to light up your night.
Tickets are limited to 6 tickets per booking. Tickets beyond this number will be cancelled. Secure your free ticket/s to the Illuminate Night Party here.
The Illuminate Night party is an all ages, smoke and alcohol free event presented by Healthway, promoting the LiveLighter message, and sponsored by Primewest and Lotterywest.

Saturday, 23 February, 9am to 11.59pm
Swan River, Perth
Swanfish is a family friendly fishing event undertaken on the Swan River in February each year.
Swanfish will be bigger and better than ever in 2019, with Recfishwest and Fishability again teaming up to bring you Perth’s premier family fishing event. Swanfish 2019 is an all ages and abilities event that will feature all your favourite fish species.
Last year for the first time in history, Swanfish became a catch and release only event for all species excluding mulloway. We partnered with TrackMyFish to utilise their smartphone app for fishers to submit catches over the weekend and will be doing the same again for Swanfish 2019.
There is nothing more important than the sustainability of our favourite species and this change will ensure that the impact we have during Swanfish remains low forever.
WHEN IS IT?
Swanfish will commence at 9:00am on Saturday 23rd February and the last fishing photos are to be submitted by 9:00am Sunday 24th February.
The traditional ‘weigh in’ will be held at 10am Garvey Park, in Ascot on the final day and is a centralised location that has plenty of shade and facilities. We will be having a BBQ, showcasing fishing clubs, tackle stores and fishing activities as well as awarding the prizes for the competition itself.
For more information or to view the rules head to the Swanfish website.
