My absolute favourite place to stay in Margaret River is the Pullman Resort at Bunker Bay (previously known as the Mirvac Quay West)
The 5-star resort is nestled on the white sands of the beautiful Bunker Bay. The resort is made up of 150 villas which offer direct beach access via a series of boardwalks through the resort’s immaculate landscaped grounds.
We’ve been coming to the Pullman Resort since before having children I get the impression that the resort was primarily designed with couples in mind rather than families. However on our last visit, since the resort has changed hands, I noticed a couple of changes which are geared towards the family market.
On checking in, the girls were both given an activity pack that contained colouring in sheets, crayons and stickers amongst other things. You are taken to your accommodation via a golf buggy. A great treat for the kids who referred to them as ‘Peppa Pig Cars’. There is a series of accommodation to choose from ranging from studios to 3 bedroom villas. We chose a two bedroomed villa.
The accommodation is of very high standard. The villas are elegantly designed with cathedral ceiling which gives a great feeling of light and space. The two bedroomed villas have two bathrooms, one of which has a spa bath which the kids loved.
The kitchen is well equipped with a full-size oven and hob, fridge freezer and a dishwasher. You’ll also find a washing machine and dryer in one of the bathrooms. Each villa has its own outdoors area which is fronted by lots of foliage making it private.
The resort has a lovely pool area with a beautiful infinity pool. Unfortunately, it is not at all child-friendly as it has no shallow end. When standing in the ‘shallower’ end of the pool the water came up to my neck, so you really have to keep a very close eye on your children when using the pool.
The pool area is fenced and gated and includes the gym. There was free sunscreen available to use, and if you got a bit peckish or thirsty, you could order a poolside snack by ringing the bar using the phone provided.
The beach at Bunker Bay is perfect for families. It’s a huge sandy bay, and the waves are calm making it perfect for kids.
The beach is accessed via a boardwalk that takes you over the resort’s lake with its resident ducks and through the bush. The kids loved the walk like explorers going on a mini adventure! The resort provides beach towels.
Nestled in the dunes on Bunker Bay is Bunkers, one of the few beachfront cafes in WA. The cafe is open daily for breakfast and lunch.
The resort has a restaurant, ‘Other Side of the Moon’ and a bar onsite. We felt most comfortable dining in the bar area with Miss 5 and Miss 2. They were presented with crayons and colouring sheets on arrival, and there is a kids menu with meal deal of a drink, main meal and ice cream dessert.
We ordered a pizza and a burger which was both good value and good quality.
If you are hankering after a good steak on the BBQ, there is one onsite located on the grassy area near the pool which is free to use. In the area is also a giant chess board – great for keeping the kids entertained while food is cooking.
We love the Pullman Resort and will definitely be returning soon!
The Pullman Resort is located a short drive from many of the family friendly attractions of the Margaret River Region. While we were there, we visited Sunflowers Animal Farm, Simmo’s Ice-creamery, Xscape at the Cape and Cheeky Monkey Brewery.
