Rubbish History Wanneroo Regional Museum

Wanneroo Regional Museum
“Rubbish History- archaeology and the things we leave behind”

If you’ve got a little Indiana Jones at home make sure to take them along to Wanneroo Regional Museum’s latest attraction exploring archaeology and how rubbish can give us clues to the past.

In addition to the museum’s regular exhibits, there is a new display showcasing artefacts excavated locally. These include items that at the time of use would have been considered “everyday” but are so different to what we have now!

This new display works in conjunction with the 4 kids activities on offer.
Children can sift through tubs of sand to find treasures and then document their finds on a worksheet to work out what they are.

There is also tubs full of broken plates, kids can unearth the pieces and put the plate back together like a big jigsaw puzzle!

Once they have put the plates back together they can have a go at decorating their own paper plate pieces and glueing them all together.

A great way of exploring the museum is doing the hieroglyphic activity. Children must go hunting for clues around the museum to decipher a hidden word on their worksheet.

This little museum is a favourite of ours, combine it with a trip to the art gallery and library upstairs or with a feed from the awesome Elixir cafe next door.
The Rubbish History exhibition runs until October 7th.
