I booked Sandy Bay for our family’s four days break in the middle of October as I was looking for a relaxed and small holiday Park conveniently located for our day trips to the Margaret River region, Dunsborough and close to the beach. Sandy Bay ticked all the boxes. It is a cosy family owned holiday park. The owners and staff are very welcoming and friendly.
The Holiday Park has 9 Swiss chalets, 9 Rammed Earth Chalet (a slightly bigger chalet) and a small section for Caravans and Camping.
The park has that peaceful country feel and is only 100m from the beach!
There is a communal sheltered BBQ area, playground and a grassy patch area for the kids to run around. My boys had so much fun playing on the playground, and it was located only a few steps away from our chalet.
There is a path going around the park which is used by cars to get to each chalet and can be safely cycled on by older kids as the speed limit for cars is 8km/h.
We stayed in a Rammed Chalet; it was a bit dark but that is what you expect from this type of accommodation.
Everything was functional. The kitchen was fully equipped (microwaves, kettle, pots, pan, plates etc) however if you do have small kids take your own plastic plates and cutlery with you as there were only some plastic cups available.
In the main bedroom, there was a very comfy queen bed and the second bedroom had two sets of bunk beds. All the linen and towels are provided. All the chalets have showers, but no bath tub but there is a large laundry sink which can be used for bathing babies. Also on request, they provide high chairs, baby cots and fire guards for the fire place. For campers and caravans, they do have a portable baby bath that can be used in the shared toilet. There is a communal laundry and outdoor clothes line and for people who like ironing while on holiday (definitely not me!!) there is an ironing board and iron available in each chalet.
We were there in the middle of October, and it was still a bit chilly in the evening so the slow combustion wood fire was perfect to keep us warm! There is no A/C but each chalet is very well insulated, and fans are provided for summer.
There are few bicycles and walking tracks not far from the resort near the beach, and the friendly staff at the reception can organise bike hire and all sort of tours. They also have loads of information and leaflets at the Reception.
