Les Lilleyman Reserve Playground is a small fenced playground surrounded by shady trees in North Perth. The grassy reserve is largely used by people walking or running with their dogs. However, tucked away in a leafy corner of the reserve, this playground is a great little spot to let the kids play while you can relax.
Les Lilleyman Reserve offers something for everyone amongst the equipment here. To start with, for the younger kids, there are two rockers, one a lion and one a horse.
For bigger kids, there are two kinds of monkey bars and a flying fox.
There is a colourful climbing frame with a slide, and play house with numbers game in the bottom.
There are two swings, a toddler swing and a regular swing. There is also a see-saw-style swing which may appeal more to the bigger kids.
The playground is fully fenced with two magnetic gates, one at each end. The ground is mostly rubber soft fall with sand in one corner surrounding a merry-go-round. Under the shade of the trees, there are two benches to relax on.
Outside of the fence, at one end of the playground, there is free exercise equipment suitable for adults and teens. At the other end, there is a picnic table, a barbecue with two hot plates, and a water fountain suitable for both people and their dogs. Toilets are available at the nearby club rooms.
At the other end of the oval, there is a basketball hoop and a cricket cage available to use.
If you fancy a coffee or snack after your play, Les Lilleyman Reserve is a short walk along Auckland Street to Hobart Deli. You could also stop at the Hobart Street Playground and make it a playground crawl if your little monkeys are bursting with energy.
Free parking is available across the street in the car park, and public transport stops on London Street right by the reserve.
The only downside I think we found with this playground was that the shade over the play equipment can be hit and miss depending on the time of day. There are no shade sails installed here, so you’ll be relying on shade from the surrounding trees. We visited at about 10.00am, and the slide was already hot enough that Miss 2.5 didn’t want to slide again. Best to check everything not in the shade to prevent burnt bottoms.
Other than that, the playground kept Miss 2.5 amused for quite a while climbing and exploring. Definitely worth checking out.
Les Lilleyman Reserve is located on the corner of London Street and Gill Street, North Perth.
